Realistic-looking, honest film about that terrible disease, and an older, sympathetic couple who seem to have things in order, who are affected by this. Especially a beautiful vulnerable role by Manville, but the film should have had a bit more color and emotion to stay in our memory longer. Especially when later in the story it turns out that this couple has already lost a child in an earlier phase, as a viewer you wonder how one can undergo all this calamity so relatively calmly and reservedly. The message from the directing duo seems, also given the title, that real love forms the basis for also being able to give this gloom a place, something that will be a bit too simple for most people. Do plead for the makers that they fortunately do not want to push that morality down the throat of the viewer, subtlety predominates, but something like the Dutch Comes a Woman at the Doctor on the same subject, with all its less neat characters, was emotionally more intense, and therefore made more of an impression.

Good film about a couple whose wife is told she has breast cancer. Maybe a bit monotonous, but beautiful. The frustration and impotence associated with the disease process come to the fore. The dynamics of the couple by age also work well. Not least because of the excellent casting of Lesley Manville and Liam Neeson who play their roles subdued.

Neeson finally shows his acting skills once again, although it helps that he gets counterplay from the fantastic Lesley Manville in this sharply observed, unadorned and deeply moving portrayal of a middle-aged couple dealing with uncertainty, fear and anxiety. , sadness, but also with unconditional love when she turns out to have breast cancer. Particularly through enlightening humor, Joan and Tom try to keep strong for each other, but their true emotions emerge in the moments they have to themselves. Also beautiful work by David Wilmot and Amit Shah as respectively a terminal patient and his life partner with whom Joan and Tom go through part of the processing process.
