Pretty okay.

It is that it is based on existing people. I only found out about that during the end credits, but it actually gets in the way of the film a bit. Halfway through there is an excellent opportunity not to make it a typical success story, but unfortunately it doesn't come to that. Also difficult if the real story is completely different of course, but in terms of drama it would have worked a lot better.

So now you have a classic from rags to riches sports movie. One where the ugly duckling etc etc. It is that Merchant works it out absolutely properly. He has a can of nice actors at his disposal, knows how to make it stylized enough and ensures that the drama works, but never gets in the way of the light-hearted nature of the film.

Yet the straitjacket of this film weighs too much to make it a really good film. It's an interesting story of course, one that deserves to be told, it's just a shame that only these kinds of stories are told. For every Saraya 100 others who have never become popular but have become happy.

But good fun, that's for sure.

I have nothing to do with this sport. But the movie still captivated me. Story with content.

Acting is not always that strong but you want to know how the relationships are glued again, Paige's development is going and how it ends.

It was especially nice that I only knew afterwards that it was based on a real story. Half point extra!

strong.

Stephen Merchant as director delivers an extremely entertaining feel-good film, one in the vein of Eddie the Eagle and the like. Here too it revolves around a child from a very British family, but of a certain kind. Nick Frost is great cast as foundation sire, Lena Headey complements well.

The rest of the cast is also doing great, but it is really Florence Pugh who steals the show. Due to good acting, the lesser part - the obligatory drama number - is easily digestible, although it remains a shame that Merchant doesn't do a bit more with it. It poops in there for a while and doesn't rise above average. Furthermore, it is all perfectly balanced: great humor, successful characters and fluently told.

That whole wrestling part - I don't know anything about it - looks too crazy for words, but turned out to be the perfect setting. The 'fights' are also skillfully portrayed.

All in all, a skilfully made, well acted and fluently told feel-good film. My score may have been rounded off on the high side, but it's not every day that I can relax and enjoy casual feel good.
