'Destroyer' follows an LAPD detective named Erin Bell, who, as a young cop, was forced to go undercover in a gang in the California desert with tragic results. When the leader of this gang reappears, she must find her way back through former members. However, she does not realize that this action will change her whole life forever.

Disappointing without a doubt. The cast is also unable to boost the film, but it is mainly the long boring elaboration of the story that more or less plummets the film. Quite a few chaotic jumps between present and past where the transitions get in the way of the build-up of tension. Mediocre movie! 5/10

Much more could have been done here. Director Karyn Kusama has made an atmospheric film with Destroyer with strong acting by Kidman, Sebastian Stan and Maslany. This may be a different role than we're used to from Kidman, but I also often thought of Charlize Theron in Monster.
And then Theron made more of an impression, because the fact that I had more sympathy for a serial killer than a corrupt FBI agent doesn't speak in Kidman's favor. Destroyer wants to impress as a thrilling drug film and as a personal drama, but the film falls short on both counts. Destroyer is certainly not bad, but Kusama and the script writers could have gotten a lot more out of this.
