Fun sci-fi/animation movie. The animation is nicely done, although the story isn't anything special. The futuristic world looks good and is very colorful; there are also a few fun moments and jokes woven throughout the story. Ultimately, it isn't as child-friendly an animated film as expected, because towards the end of the film the inventor of the friendly robot is pulverized by the bad guy with a laser gun, which you won't often see in a Pixar animation. I thought it was a shame that it wasn't revealed what happened to the girl's father. Otherwise, a fine movie; Netflix did a good job with that!

Absolutely not Disney or Pixar, if only because of some violent scenes, a very serious and grave threat – and the death of a character depicted very clearly . This is a 'kids' movie', but thanks to the (many) action scenes, I sometimes just almost forgot that I was watching animation. The animation is perfectly fine, and even though the story is sometimes a bit thin and sometimes even downright predictable... I enjoyed myself just fine. I think it is a matter of taste whether you find it too violent/too childish for adults. I say, give this movie a chance and judge for yourself.
But I would absolutely not recommend this film for children under 6. It is just a little too crude for that.

Mai [Charlyne Yi] is resentful of her parents' divorce and the attention her mother [Constance Wu] gives to their household robot. Her loneliness is broken by her chance encounter with an experimental robot [John Krasinski], who quickly becomes her best friend but is designed for a higher purpose. She has to deal with the nefarious plans of Big Tech boss Justin Pin [Jason Sudeikis]. It bears more than a slight resemblance to (and cannot quite match) Big Hero 6 and the Transformers-esque finale is quite violent for younger viewers. On the other hand, there is good voice acting, a nice dose of humor, and inventive and polished animation.
