King of Thieves plot

"It's never too late to earn"

'King of Thieves' tells the true story of the biggest jewelery heist in British history. During Easter, a group of elderly criminals managed to reach the safe deposit box of the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit company and loot millions. Initially, it was thought that the robbery was committed by a group of hard-to-grasp super criminals.

Mediocre film in which a number of elderly men manage to break into an underground safe. However, based on the largest British jewel heist, this is a fairly standard heist movie. The squat itself is quite simple and not exciting. Of course it is a pleasure to see this cast at work here, but the characters are also not really interesting.

Reconstruction of the infamous theft of goods worth more than £14 million from a high-security vault in Hatton Garden in April 2015 with a look at British acting veterans as retired criminals looking to make one more big move. With Michael Caine, Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtenay, Ray Winstone and a small role for Michael Gambon, on paper this is a dream project with which you should have been able to attract numerous fans of these top actors to the cinema or streaming service without any problems. Director Marsh seems to have thought so too, because his direction is routine to say the least. The actors may be elderly, but that is no excuse for the slow pace at which this story unfolds. Broadbent tries to liven things up every now and then with some sharp curses, but the actors seem to be extremely bored, until the very last scene, after which they were probably relieved that the end was near. As a viewer you can certainly identify with that.

Apparently based on a real huge crack, and it either passed me by completely or disappeared from my memory without leaving an active or inactive memory, and because I thought this was a made-up plot I was always waiting for a twist that allows Charlie Cox to outdo the old men, or is Tom Courtenay less stupid than he pretends? Instead, the fatal frictions were depicted quite clearly and then the film went straight to the end. In the end I was able to content myself with enjoying the performances of the cream of the crop of the older (not to say elderly) members of the British acting guild (only Bill Nighy is still missing), and Jim Broadbent shows something more to be able to play Bridget Jones' dorky father and related roles - his performance was for me the highlight of the film, which is otherwise not very groundbreaking or entertaining.
