Good Cop plot

John Paul runs into his ex-girlfriend Cassandra and their daughter Libby. He glimpses the family he could have had, but Cassie isn't interested in a reunion. Later, while enjoying lunch with his best friend and colleague Andy Stockwell, he witnesses a gang of men assaulting a waitress. He intervenes and comes face to face with the very obnoxious Finch, who threatens to attack the next police officer he sees. After the start of their shift, John Paul and Andy respond to what appears to be a standard call. After arriving at the house, they see Finch and the gang from the restaurant waiting. Andy is beaten up and the gang escapes. Later that evening, John Paul returns to the house in an attempt to make sense of everything and finds a loaded weapon hidden under a loose floorboard. Finch shows up and John Paul is forced to act. He makes a decision that changes the course of his life and career forever.
