5 years after the previous part, I was hoping there would be some more evolution in the series. A missed opportunity actually to not suddenly make Hiccup a bit older again. As it happened from part 1 to part 2. Grimmel the Grisly immediately made me think of a character from Asterix & Obelix. His character is very poorly developed. Other than that, it's mostly a mess. The film looks nice with the opening scene and makes you hope for an upgrade after part 2. But then it becomes a less story with weak humor and a messy story. It can no longer really bother you. Too bad the trilogy has to end like this.

Clearly the worst of the trilogy. The beginning comes quite out of the blue. I felt like I missed the first 10 minutes of the movie. Eventually it becomes clear and the story begins to take off. But then the movie goes a little off track for me. Childish (unlike the first two parts) and far too long scenes in which almost nothing happens. Only small children may enjoy this. What remains is a somewhat thin story. If you would remove some scenes and use the interesting films a little more, it could have been a nice closing. Now I can't give more than 2.5 stars.

Closing chapter in the trilogy is the weakest, but still offers enough entertainment for the whole family. After the death of his father [Gerard Butler], Hiccup [Jay Baruchel] is the leader of the Viking tribe where they still live in harmony with dragons. Hiccup's loyal dragon friend Toothless discovers that he is not the only one of his kind and falls in love with a fellow of his own kind. Shortly afterwards it appears that the dreaded dragon hunter Grimmel [F. Murray Abraham] plans to exterminate the dragons. The only place where Toothless and his ilk can now live safely is the hidden world from the title. In some ways, this is a repeat of the two predecessors, and DeBlois tries too hard every now and then to be funny or touching, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem for kids. Technically this is again excellent but it has now been beautiful.
