This documentary traces the life of singer and pop icon Mathangi 'Maya' Arulpragasam - alias MIA Her experiences of civil war, her migration and her rise as a popular but controversial star are discussed. She was born in Sri Lanka and fled to London at the age of nine with her mother and siblings. She later founded the Tamil independence movement. She became one of the most controversial musicians in the world.
