All the ingredients are there: gymnast son on his way to gold, demanding father in a wheelchair so that son also shows his caring side and the beautiful Physio that son has an eye on. The dilemma is born.

But unfortunately the film doesn't really stick. A few beautiful scenes (especially the one between Wristers and Haverkort) but most of it remains too much on the surface to really be emotional.

Playing in Tokyo. But oh, suddenly there is the attractive sports masseuse Irene [Loes Haverkort] who suddenly makes him doubt his ambitions. Timo also has some unresolved mommy problems in this moody psychological drama in which the facilities of Dutch top gymnasts are reminiscent of a dilapidated gymnasium and the camera work in any case radiates sadness. David Wristers is convincing as a gymnast (he was Dutch champion on vault in 2016), but as an actor he is too much of a lightweight to be at all convincing. Myrthe Mosterman won a Golden Calf for her cinematography, which she partly owes to the beautifully filmed gymnastics scenes.

The entire connection with gold and/or the OS is almost completely absent. Mentioned in the synopsis, but in the background in the film. Yes, of course it is the 'dream' that is being worked on. But it all takes place in a back gym in Schubbekutteveen, the rest you have to imagine, except for the end. The title of the film therefore feels unnatural, they could have better called it 'Oedipus', because that gets a lot of the attention. All quite uncomfortable because the piece of drama is poorly explored. The same applies to the relationship with his father. Ultimately, what remains is a rather empty event. *2.0
