There was a little more to it.

The beginning is quite good. Atmospherically set, without too much fuss, but very threatening. Nice use of soundtrack, visually nice and tight and two actors who are quite suitable for their role. Although Reilly clearly has the advantage. Both in terms of talent and the role she is presented with.

But it becomes clear a bit too quickly that the relationship is slightly different than previously thought. Not such a disaster in itself, but the film lingers there for far too long and the explanation behind it is actually of secondary importance. These kinds of twists have been done so often that they can rarely surprise, let alone shock.

There is still a pleasant ending, but it is a pity that by then the stretch has gone a bit. The film simply hangs around in the middle section for far too long, as if Ewing was convinced that what is shown was really very captivating and surprising. She should focus a bit more on style, that is clearly where her talent lies.

The house used in the film was featured on the Channel 4 programme "Grand Designs." The programme fully documented the construction of the house.

Personally, I am a fan of these kinds of films with such a storyline. The plus points are the acting of both main characters, and the beautiful house in which the film is set. The minus points are the mediocre development of the story. Cathy gets several chances to overpower her kidnapper, but then does not use them. Her numerous opportunities to escape are also simply overlooked. The fact that halfway through the film it becomes clear that Cathy is also responsible for a murder, makes this all together a missed opportunity to make it more believable. With a bit more care, this could have been a nice end result. For the rest, a reasonable thriller for a boring evening.

Evans and Reilly are fortunately two top performers, because the film itself was not really a high flyer, and things happen that can be called quite stupid. I will just give one example. The film would have been over if Reilly had just closed and locked a door, but no, she just leaves it open. And there were a few more things like that.

I really don't understand that a filmmaker doesn't understand that most people think, yeah, this can't be....
