Great Anderson

From minute 1 it is clear that something crazy is going on, but Anderson knows how to play it smart. He makes everyone suspicious through the eyes of our protagonist. He turns the tables several times to eventually arrive at the fairly logical conclusion, but because Anderson plays with the genre cliches, the film continues to fascinate.

Anderson is not the director who knows how to turn a genre upside down. I think that's why he is perhaps the least well-known director with this last name. But what he does is not so easy.

Give Anderson a big hit once in a while. A few bigger names in the cast and he can really make a crowd pleaser. He knows his business too well.

3.5 stars.

Some mixed feelings about the movie. The film plays with reality, the images look somewhat stark but tight, the atmosphere is appropriate, so in that respect it's all okay. By the way, I like movies that play with reality, but here's the set up that bothers me a bit. There are a number of twists, but the film refuses to surprise. At some point it's clear that the movie can have two outcomes: or what the main character is delusional, or what happens to him is real and at the end of the movie we'll see what the creators finally decided to have. In these kinds of movies I want to be surprised with possibilities I didn't foresee, or I want to be lulled to sleep in another reality after which the film confronts me with reality, but this film does neither. 2.5*.

Watched this movie with some friends, everyone experienced it completely different.
I started to suspect it was the man quite early on, while they were convinced, until the last few minutes, that the hospital was playing a game. When the man saw the dog I started to think again that he was right about the hospital. I was absolutely not disappointed that that was eventually reversed, it makes the film much more logical and stronger, while you have seen a bit of a story about a corrupt hospital. This was the best of both possible outcomes. Have now watched the film again, and it is quite well put together, you see all the things that you missed the first time. Pretty well made film, the ending was also moving despite it being in his head.

I think the point of this movie was to make you doubt the two possibilities for as long as possible. She certainly succeeded. People who say that the film is predictable because after half an hour they 'had it figured out' are bragging. Of course you think so at some point, I myself started to suspect it when they were still driving, but towards the end three quarters of these people are really not so sure anymore. And finally say they saw it coming. Yeah, bye, I don't think that's how it works.
