Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond - Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton plot

Portrait of two of the most inspired and original comedians of the last 50 years. An intimate behind-the-scenes look at the 1999 film "Man on the Moon" takes a look at an actor's total immersion in an extraordinarily challenging role. In Milos Forman's biopic, Carrey portrayed the famous absurdist Andy Kaufman, who was also known for his role in the sitcom Taxi. Carrey went completely 'method' at the time and also continued to 'act' between takes as Kaufman and his singing alter ego Tony Clifton. Lynne Margulies and Bob Zmuda were often on set at the time to capture Carrey's behavior on video.

Nice. The desperation of the cast, Carrey's persistence not to step out of character during the shooting and beyond. Wonderful to see. Didn't know Kaufman (that well), but here you get to see what a weirdo (or brilliant?) he actually was. Brilliantly played by Carrey, who, just like Kaufman in real life, draws blood from the cast and crew. Do you look at Man on the Moon with different eyes... Still revised.

The real Jim Carrey.

The most interesting thing about the film is that Carrey allows himself to be captured on camera. An interview where Carrey's emotions fly in all directions. It's great to see how he has developed and performed his act over all these years. And this is made even more interesting by showing images in which he is completely absorbed in his role as Kaufman and Tony Clifton.

In the film, a scene takes place in which Carrey has received instructions from the studio never to release the footage he recorded during the making of Man on the Moon because they were afraid that Carrey would be considered a dick. That's the best moment in the movie. Carrey wonders whether he went too far back then. The best thing about that scene is that he is very aware of what he is doing and is very serious about his work. But the conversations about his father also make an impression.

Good documentary, especially because we finally get to see a completely different side of Carrey, in which he plays no role and is 100% himself. This is also very interesting for people who have little or no interest in Carrey, and I am one of those people.

Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond - Featuring a Very Special, Contractually Obligated Mention of Tony Clifton

Excellent documentary in which we see two sides of Jim Carrey. The comedian we became familiar with through films such as The Mask, The Truman Show, Liar Liar and Ace Ventura. But also the serious and somewhat spiritual Carrey now that he is getting older. And all this against the backdrop of images taken during the making of Man on the Moon, a film about Andy Kaufman. Carrey remained in his role throughout the film's production, driving everyone involved crazy. The somewhat thoughtful Carrey provides the most beautiful moments, and the duality of his character also makes it an interesting viewing experience.
