The Farthest plot
"12 billion miles and counting..."
Twelve billion miles from us in the fall of 1977, a spaceship leaves our solar system and into deep space. It is the first man-made object ever to do this. The plutonium generator inside may survive another decade before Voyager's lights go out. But the spacecraft will continue to travel for millions of years, taking pictures and images of Earth. Voyager may outlive humanity and its creations and be the only evidence of our existence. Now forty years later, the spaceship continues to pass on valuable information to us.
