A hallucinatory trip to hell. In Revenge, we follow Jen (Matilda Lutz) who is taken as an extramarital 'fancy' by wealthy Richard (Kevin Janssens) to his country retreat in the desert for a weekend of sex and hunting. That soon turns out to be an all too beautiful representation of things as soon as two of Richard's hunting companions join in and Jen turns out to be nothing more than a sex object with nothing to contribute and after brutal violence is left for dead in the desert. However, Jen miraculously survives and sets out to hunt down her assailants so that her revenge will taste sweet.

Revenge is not a film for the faint of heart and weak stomachs. The violence is portrayed very explicitly, shamelessly zooming in on wounds and not being childish with blood. Although the plot is somewhat unbelievable, the film has a lot to offer. Revenge is visually a feast for the eyes, with a special eye for detail and a color scheme that enhances the hallucinatory character of the film. This also applies to the auditory component, with a score that settles in your head like an upcoming migraine attack. The desolate desert landscape, which produces beautiful pictures, does the rest. Matilda Lutz in particular plays a great two-sided role: initially the somewhat naive and seductive woman who turns the men's heads and later the ruthless, tough woman - a kind of mix of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider and "The Bride" in Kill Bill - who is out for retaliation. She needs few words. As mentioned by others, the film seems to come at an appropriate time given the #MeToo vicissitudes, which also gives the film some urgency. Conclusion: a very successful film debut by Coralie Fargeat!

Too bad there aren't more movies like this! Good action, good soundtrack and good cinematography. A lot of the movie is unrealistic but that doesn't matter at all, it's just super fun and entertaining. Recently also watched Jagveld, a South African film that is a lot worse than this one, but clearly has the same elements. And that Jen isn't normally tasty!

Fresh revenge movie.

Of course done more often, but completely different here, not a mega power woman like Beatrice in Kill Bill.

Or another story with a well-considered revenge idea.

But the course of circumstances , and what you can do with it .

Often not realistic, but a few scenes definitely stand out to me, such as the bird tattoo, and the foot glass scene.

The latter was intensely painful , but certainly not torture porn like ( yes it is quite soon around the corner ) I spit .

Come and see that it is all incredibly beautifully shot. Bright blue , drops of blood on an ant .

It was all slightly different , and that made a very beautiful whole .

It's a shame that director Fargeat never spoke again after this, but who knows?

Very good .

Thick 4 * .
