Wonderfully creepy revenge movie. Essentially, main character Donal (Nigel O'Neill) isn't much different from all those other disgruntled, hyper-violent middle-aged men. The Mel Gibson's, Liam Neeson's and Charles Bronson's of this world. But 'Bad Day for the Cut' (2017) has an absurdist undertone that makes it different. In fact, because Donal is such an unlikely avenging angel, the caring loner who has devoted his life to being a caregiver for his mother. In a predictable farming life where important life decisions passed him by like seasons for the land. Sometimes something has to be planted or sown, sometimes an animal has to be slaughtered or castrated. The same straightforward pragmatics Donal uses to justify his unbelievably hard retaliation when cornered. Between the uncompromising violence, 'Bad Day for the Cut' (2017) is a warm film about a man who starts seeing more and more shades of gray and questions his own role in things.

Entertaining double revenge film somewhere in Northern Ireland in the countryside where almost nothing happens and time has stood still. A local farmer goes crazy when his mother is killed in a robbery and he emerges as a cold-blooded hunter. The metamorphosis may have been hair-pulling, but O'Neill plays his part with gusto.
Also interesting was the subtle humor that crept into the film here and there to make it enjoyable to watch. I found the plot itself or the motives a bit complex. A bit cliché also with the still waters, deep-rooted stories about which the main character knew nothing.
Bit of a less is more movie. Without much fuss. Filmed naturally, great characters, great setting there in Northern Ireland with that juicy accent. Entertaining and refreshing. Nice!
