Correctly.

Hadn't heard of Doremus yet, but this film is kind of a calling card. Clearly a film by someone with their own perspective and steady hand. Certainly good enough to look for some more films soon.

This film scores mainly during the first hour. A modern romance that you don't see often enough. It's not really Hollywood, but it's not really indie either, which makes it just more interesting. Characters are also compelling enough, as is the relationship they embark on.

Unfortunately, Doremus does not manage to last the full length. The second half is a bit more traditional. While the romance still looked modern, the drama is fairly classic. Fortunately, the stylization is consistently attractive, the actors perform very well and the film is above all very atmospheric.

This is a nice film, a more modern view is always included in filmland.

3.5*

Wandering souls in the digital age

Anyone who would like to criticize this film can have fun. You could say that the script has a lot of loose ends, especially where the (often superficial) side characters are concerned; you could point to the length of the film or the fact of bored, advantaged millennials whose lives you could then view as fake and polished as the shadow world of digital dating. In my opinion, the latter only makes the film more believable.

In any case, I cannot and do not want to recycle all that criticism, especially because over time [although the first half of the film is plotwise better] more and more space is made for the emotional/ psychological core of Martin and Gabi's wandering personalities. Doremus dares to go for two hours, and afterwards I can only respect that. Many producers/studios would have cut it off - or he/she (in the case of another director) himself.

Laia Costa (Victoria) is phenomenal again.

Well-made, atmospheric and emotional film in which you can find a lot of recognition, although the ending feels somewhat run-down. I also get very irritated by these types of people who are constantly looking for cheap thrills just to feel something in life. Because these people actually have nothing else in life, no hobbies or passions or personality, they just have that open relationship and that becomes their entire identity. I also think that about people who have an open relationship in real life. It's cheap and childish and superficial and I can't find any depth in it. I don't think the happy ending fits, to be honest, they should both have ended up alone or swiping on a dating app.
