Cody Maverick is looking for a new challenge. He is persuaded by a pair of infamous surfers known as 'The Hang 5' to join them on their journey to a mysterious surf spot. The place is known as the 'Trenches' and the story goes that it contains the highest waves in the world. Cody soon realizes that the life he left behind is more heroic than any deadly wave could ever offer him.
