Norman Oppenheimer lives a lonely life on the fringes of New York's power and big money. He dreams of big financial projects, but they never materialize. Having nothing to offer, he tries to be everyone's friend, but his incessant networking leads to nothing. He decides to turn his attention to Micha Eshel, a charismatic Israeli politician who is alone in New York. When he feels Eshel's vulnerability, he buys him a pair of expensive shoes, which touches Eshel deeply. Three years later, Eshel becomes Prime Minister and still remembers Norman.
