Meh.

There are some good ideas in this Netflix Original, but at the end of the day they didn't all come out. In my opinion, people do not dare to opt for a certain direction: full of cynicism, or full of the naive kid that is Ruth, or full of a more violent approach. It skips in all directions throughout the film.

But that doesn't make it really bad. I was able to laugh quite a few times, especially with the bland things like the first confrontation about the laptop. And every now and then there's a Coen-esque scene in it. For me it should have been more of the latter.

2.5

Okay, not everything is equally strong, but overall I found it very enjoyable! Bit of a Coens atmosphere indeed, some scenes are even reminiscent of Lynch. Has a real voice of their own I don't feel at home in this world maybe not, but the characters and the situations they end up in are nice enough to condone that. In terms of palette of situations, the film is constantly in motion. Rose from Two and a half men does well in the supporting role and Elijah Wood supports her well. Pretty good use of music too though. It's a bit between 3 and 3.5, but it fell in the right direction for me yesterday.

Nice movie! The beginning was a bit disappointing with a bit too much clichéd and typically arthouse complaining about little things and a cynical attitude to life on the part of Rose (because that's how we know her after all). But gradually the film gains momentum and Blair unpacks with unexpected twists, creativity and humor, and fun characters.

One does indeed recognize the style of the Coens, and I would like to add Anders Thomas Jensen to that. At the end it could have gone on for a while, but it turned out to be a strong, small film.
