Disappointing film about a new TV show in which people commit suicide in front of the camera. As a criticism of TV, this film cannot be taken seriously. It is too sensationalized for that and the main character is too unbelievable. The story is a bit repetitive here and there and the ending is also disappointing (the whole plot about the family man is too broadly expressed for that).

Content-wise very wrong movie this, fortunately for the rest (script, actors) in everything very mediocre so that this questionable fuss will be dismissed by the large crowd as too insignificant. Towards the end there is still some moral in it, but then it is already too late to take away the strange feeling that I got from this. Several times it is shown in detail how people in a TV show, to loud applause, commit suicide and because it is all very seriously and without any irony, it all smells of sensationalism. Director Espsito has given himself a leading role and should not have done so. Both as a director and as an actor he is not quite right, apart from the fact that his role actually contributes little to the core of the story. It must be said that he still does better than the other leading actor. Mr. Duhamel portrays a very fake and unfollowable TV presenter. Our Famke, also apparently given the botox, seems in comparison to this in her otherwise inconspicuous supporting role to be an actress who is nevertheless a class higher in the hierarchy, but that ultimately says more about the mediocrity around her than about herself.

I was unsure beforehand whether the rating would still stand after revision, but fortunately This Is Your Death loses little power. Director Giancarlo Esposito clearly makes a television film, but delivers about the highest possible quality within that universe. This does mean that the project uses a fair amount of drama to color the story, but the concept is disturbing enough and certainly the last half hour is remarkably uninhibited. Nevertheless, Esposito keeps his film light and entertaining, which allows the viewer to be guided smoothly through the heavier side of the event. Josh Duhamel, Esposito himself and Sarah Wayne Callies deliver convincing performances and complete the justification for the high rating.
