No Good Deed plot

"HE was more than a cop. SHE was more than a thief."

Detective Jack Friar stumbles upon a strange gang of criminals who are about to rob a bank, while Jack searches for a missing teenager on Turk Street for a friend. Jack is held hostage by the gang until they decide what to do with him. The leader's girlfriend, the beautiful Erin, has to keep an eye on Jack while the rest are gone. Erin is very good at manipulating the male gang members, but she shows him a completely different side of her, namely a melancholic romantic, who could also have become a classical pianist. Erin finds the situation exciting, and Jack isn't sure if she means what she says or if she's manipulating him too. Before the gang returns, the roles of Jack and Erin have changed so much that the question is who will eventually run off with the stolen money...

Bad play from the A-cast, lame twists and turns and the worst ending I've seen in ages: a flop from start to finish.

1 star.

This was meant to be funny, I guess. Because it is a farce for sure. I lost it for a while when Jovovich went to seventh heaven via the g-string. Furthermore, she does not cook at all, the bleached rascal never gets further than a burlesque type and the kingpin of the couple is just as clownish in appearance. Also Jackson cannot escape a breach of contract and the stupid story is nothing. The gray grumbler sometimes has something nice to say, but there is nothing more to do with this nonsense.

A veteran director films a 1920s story by a classic author with various traditional noir types (the gang brain, the psychopath, the femme fatale) and gets away with it thanks to the actors also. Jackson plays cool and solid, Skarsgård may try a little too hard, I've never trusted Hutchison since The green mile, and Jovovich is very convincing as a temptress who just about everyone tends to – her scene with Jackson and the cello might have been unintentionally hilarious, but it struck me as extremely erotic. (But Mrs Thornhill also plays the cello.)
