The writer Antoine has been dumped by his girlfriend. He wants to take revenge on her and the entire female sex. Jean plans to publish this bedroom adventure. Antoine eventually agrees and seduces a typist, Catherine. But their physical relationship turns into an emotional one and Antoine develops deep feelings for Catherine. However, when Catherine finds out about the initial start of their relationship, she questions all of Antoine's good intentions.

Besides the originality and cynical mischief of the plot, it is above all the clever dialogues (and monologues) that constitute the film's greatest asset.

Of course, there is also the exceptionally good performance of Fabrice Luchini in his role as a smooth talker and ultimately unsavory character.

Judith Henry also plays superbly.

This story about the blossoming love between a relatively innocent girl and a irritating writer is delightfully subtle and understated. It's wonderful to see them grow closer. I'm particularly struck by Judith Henry's beautiful performance, perhaps less so by Fabrice Luchini—but that might be because he plays a rather repulsive character. The ending is somewhat surprising and comes as a kind of return to equilibrium.

Beautiful piano in the background - one of the few films where the music is very clearly present, not distractingly in the foreground, yet it still gets into your head.

Great movie.

A writer has a relationship purely for the purpose of writing a book about it. Initially, it's an interesting film with a nice premise that leaves you curious about what happens next. But at some point, the film starts to meander along. Still quite enjoyable, but the suspense and interest eventually wear off. And that remains the case until the very end. So, this film isn't exactly a high-flyer, but it's enjoyable and easy to watch at a leisurely pace.
