A boring and long-winded film with abominable acting.

Endlessly long scenes with much fuss about very little. Not at all excitingly presented.

The film consists of a collection of repetitions of moves. They are cinematic tricks that provide a bit of a fright once, but then lose their power due to the amount of repetition.

It's a glimpse here. A glimpse there. A sound here. A sound there. A piece of history here. A piece of history there. And that takes about 100 minutes.

The story is drawn out for far too long. In fact, very little happens.

It's terrifying that someone makes such a long film with so little material. Now that's horror.

Terrible movie. Unnecessary movie.

For his feature film debut, James Crow is director, producer, screenwriter, cameraman, editor, arranges casting and, to top it all off, wrote the lyrics to a repulsive pop song that is used in the film. With all these functions, Mr. Crow may seem like a jack-of-all-trades, but he really doesn't do much. When it comes to horror and suspense, Crow has one trick: a character sees something, gets scared and then it's gone. Crow is clearly proud of this trick, because he fills his entire film with it. The editing, pacing and the extremely boring script show that he knows little about suspense. But he seems to know even less about creating good characters and directing actors. The actors - including a daughter who looks older than her mother and schoolchildren played by 25-year-old men - do their best, but the potato sacks that the spooky kids in this film wear over their heads have more charisma.

1.5 stars.

Ineffective horror film with a cheap design, probably because director James Crow had to give in with a minuscule budget. The acting is fortunately not bad and a scene during the finale is remarkably strong, but Crow otherwise abuses easy scares and a too long running time. In terms of content, there is little in Curse of the Witching Tree to be impressed by, so why the makers take so long to explain everything is a mystery. A number of scenes, such as the journey through the house with the flashlight, show that there was a certain passion and love present, but ultimately you will have forgotten everything again after the end.
