Dagon plot

Paul and his gorgeous girlfriend Barbara celebrate their business success with another couple, Howard and Vicki, on their yacht off the coast of Spain. Their party is interrupted when the boat crashes into a rock protruding above the water and Vicki gets her leg wedged between the boat and the rock. Paul and Barbara leave for the coastal fishing village of Imboca to get help. The residents are not really helpful, but someone is willing to go to the crashed yacht with Paul. Howard and Vicki are gone. Upon return, Barbara finds herself captured by the increasingly strange villagers. Paul is then chased himself and slowly but surely discovers the true story of Imboca...

A story by HP Lovecraft made into a movie by Stuart Gordon, that alone caught my attention for this movie. After a bit of bickering and the shipwreck, the film gets off to a good start from the moment the storm breaks loose. A very atmospheric and mysterious production about a village where the inhabitants are clearly 'different'. For example, the fairly spooky hotel owner has gills in his neck and as the story progresses it becomes even more clear that this character was actually not that strange. The further you get into the story, the weirder the characters get. Fortunately, a few things about Dagon are explained so that you will also find out why this village can be called so sinister. I thought the ending was a bit strange, but that doesn't take away from the fact that I had a great time with this film.

Another nice Gordon.

But after a relatively dull first half hour there was just as little hope for Gordon for me. His previous films I saw were Re-Animator and Dolls and I really liked both of them. This one is the least of the 3, but still an above average horror movie.

Despite the fact that this one needs some time to work towards the great finale, this one still manages to captivate a bit. But after watching the first 30 minutes I didn't see enough in it anymore. But it is only after the old man begins to tell about the history of the town that the film gains power.

The fun designs come into play, the gore jumps up and the pace speeds up. And in the end this works towards a wonderfully atmospheric finale that can also be disturbing. Certainly the moment when Rabal is executed by means of removal of the face I was still watching.

And the film gets more brutal and harder. In the end I just thought the final was just really fun. The atmosphere is strong, very imaginative. More creatures, more creepyness. Things like this ensure that Dagon still manages to succeed.

But the CGI is often depressing, and the first part remains quite boring and well-behaved. I wasn't really used to that from Gordon either. But that real Gordon seems to come back to life in the last 45 minutes. That's just how I like to see horror.

Very entertaining film, based on HP Lovecraft's Cthulhu and Dagon, which I'm a huge fan of anyway. Film was extremely atmospheric and that Goméz who played Uxia Cambarro was tasty even with tentacles
