Genius tells the true story of the relationship between literary heavyweight Thomas Wolfe (Law) and famed publisher Max Perkins (Firth). Already at a young age, the charismatic Wolfe is very successful. Perkins is one of the most respected and best-known literary publishers in the world, discovering iconic novelists such as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway. When Wolfe and Perkins meet, a tender but complex friendship develops that will change the lives of both brilliant but very different men forever.

Beautiful film about the famous publisher Max Perkins who has to deal with the flamboyant writer Thomas Wolfe. The film gives a beautiful picture of the time and looks very nice. Especially the toil about the editing and the interaction between the characters Perkins and Wolfe make this film very nice.
The acting, especially by Firth, is very good, Jude Law does a great job and the strong supporting roles of Guy Pierce and Nicole Kidman should not be forgotten.
At first it took me a while to get into it, but as it progressed the film started to grab me more and more and I was ultimately very impressed.

The greatness of a writer in the narrow-mindedness of his own convictions, where he ignores the true essence of life. In all this relational interpersonal chaos Bernstein, tightly played by Kidman, lifts a corner of the veil in her own search for the deeper being in her life and the sacrifice of this for 1 person. The Finale indicates (literally and figuratively) that connections can sometimes be disrupted and what that is at the expense of. Good in-depth film about the life of a great writer for his time.
