If you (like me) grew up with NWA and knew all the lyrics by heart around 1990, this movie is great anyway. For people who are just now hearing from them, looking for original script and cinematography and brilliant dialogue, I would look elsewhere.

Let me state that I have nothing to do with rap, gangster rap, NWA or anything in that scene. Still, I was curious about Straight Outta Compton, also because of the stories of my partner who always listened to NWA and the individual members. So yesterday I finally watched the film and I was positively surprised!
The film gripped me, the story was gripping (sometimes tragic, sometimes humorous, sometimes energetic) and the acting was fine. Seeing (and feeling) the injustice that was (and still is) done to the black community in America justifies the harsh lyrics in the songs of NWA in one go
It was interesting, even for a non-enthusiast like myself, and that's saying a lot. I've worked through the running time without difficulty and find Straight Outta Compton 1 of the most interesting films in ages. Top!

The biography of NWA The hip-hop formation that put hip-hop on the map. A fascinating drama that, despite an ample playing time of almost two-and-a-half hours, reaches a decent level and remains at that level. Also with some humor, the first time Eazy-E starts rapping is hilarious. Soundtrack perfectly fine, with fine songs that are very recognizable for the connoisseurs. Also nice that moment when Dr. Dre is pinging on his synthesizer and you immediately recognize Nothing but ag thang. The first thing that came to mind was '1, 2, 3 and to the 4, Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre is at the door'.
It's also nice that not only the members of NWA pass by, but there is also attention for other greats in the hip-hop scene who later broke through thanks in part to NWA, such as Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and 50 Cent. Of course also how Death Row Records and Aftermath Entertainment came into existence and that there is attention for the film Boyz 'n the Hood in which Ice Cube plays.
A great film for the hip-hop lover, of which I am one myself. So I had a great time with this.
