Vinny Pazienza is a dedicated boxer with a lot of perseverance, but that doesn't seem to be enough to claim a world title in his weight class. When his trainer gives up his faith in Vinny in front of the cameras, his career seems to come to a dead end. Vinny refuses to give up and with the help of his new coach Kevin Rooney makes a miraculous comeback. But that comeback comes to a cruel end.

Nice film about a boxer who ends up in a car accident after achieving his biggest victory. A nice true story. Not exactly original at all and the course is also predictable. But it remains inspiring to see that he manages to pick up his professional career after a broken neck. It is all easy to watch and although Miles Teller does well, he is a bit miscast. Easily 3.0 stars.

The true, miraculous story of boxer Vinny Pazienza, who dreams of a world title but suffers some major setbacks, including a car crash. Tiler and Eckhart are good as Vinny and his new trainer Kevin Rooney, but like the shorts Vinny wears in the ring, this too often recalls better boxing films. Younger has nothing new to add to that genre.

Director Ben Younger takes advantage of inspiring source material to color his film, but Miles Teller makes a rather unbelievable impression as a top athlete. He often comes across as considerably less experienced than his opponents and the passion for his profession rarely strikes, despite his professional efforts to achieve this. The finale in particular results in a real disappointment for the aforementioned reasons, but fortunately the acting is solid and the content is enough to justify a running time of 116 minutes. Visually, it is also raw and direct enough to support the setting, but that is where most compliments stop.
