A family with three children has moved to a new, remote home. While everyone struggles with adjustment issues, this is especially true for the youngest child, Heather, who withdraws into her own little world and befriends an invisible friend there. The seasoned horror viewer will immediately know what is going on. The less experienced viewer will also quickly figure this out as the film delivers numerous hints.

Director Dominic James manages to tell the story in a boring way. Instead of focusing full attention on the horror element, the emphasis is placed on dramatic themes. Not bad in itself, but just very boring. Moreover, these accents in the story make the film much more of a drama than a horror film. The horror element is merely an afterthought and serves the dramatic themes, which, by the way, are developed very superficially. In terms of neither horror nor emotion, the film offers no goosebumps material.

The story unfolds slowly and contains hardly any surprises. What is surprising, however, is the good acting of the children. The believable acting of the children makes the film a bearable experience. After an endlessly long build-up, the film ends in a finale that is actually somewhat spectacular. It is not enough to make you forget the thin plot and the long build-up, but the finale makes up for the dullness a little. Wait Till Helen Comes is simply not an enjoyable film.
