Amazing how often the word "boring" appears on these pages. A beautiful, warm, emotional film about the vulnerable person behind Sherlock Holmes, regardless of whether you mean the character of Conan Doyle, the creation of Watson or the youthful, arrogant and distant (interpretation of) McKellen in the flashbacks . A human is deteriorating and trying to come to terms with his past, portrayed perfectly by a great Ian McKellen, a lump in my throat.

The Anglophile can indulge in this film, visually speaking. When the steam train passes under that typical English bridge, for example, what a picture! And the house of Holmes, a joy to behold; the garden around it, the cozy rooms, so cozy in fact that it sometimes feels almost Hobbit-like.

In a narrative sense, however, it turns out not to be all that much in the end. But Ian McKellen is a killer and takes the somewhat poor story to a higher level. What a beautiful characteristic head that man has, with that pronounced nose that you really can't ignore.

The beauty of aging.

Sherlock Holmes [Ian McKellen] is seriously aging and, partly due to the death of his brother Mycroft [John Sessions], a bit out of balance in every way. He now raises bees, relies on Mrs. Munro [Laura Linney] and bonds with his son Roger [Milo Parker]. Still, the master detective can't resist the temptation of a good mystery when Thomas Kelmot [Patrick Kennedy] enlists his help to unravel exactly what's going on with Ann [Hattie Morahan], who's acting increasingly strange. The mystery is quite interesting, but the story (based on Mitch Cullin's book 'A Slight Trick of the Mind') focuses more on the development of Holmes, who must come to terms with the fact that his age causes physical and mental limitations. Especially a triumph for McKellen, who is nothing short of perfect.
