Good and interesting film about the persecution of the Jews and Nazzi art theft during WWII.

A story based on true facts that is well interpreted, emotionally related to painful memories of events surrounding the annexation of Austria to Germany (the flashbacks are appropriately spread over the film - perhaps a little too long escape scene) and fortunately at times also a more light-hearted tone catches on.

Very nice and poignant present-past-mixture scene towards the end.

The story may be based on true events, but the film still feels unreal. This is mainly due to the transparent way in which the characters interact according to Hollywood rules. Lyrics like "you're a good person" and "did I say I couldn't have done it without you?" fly around your ears from start to finish. None of the characters feel real, but that's less about the acting than the screenplay. Also found the flashbacks (rather faded backs) far from convincing in terms of historical feeling and atmosphere. It's nice to see the versatile Tatiana Maslany chatting along with a nice mouthful of German. The court scene at the end is substandard and cliché, the strings with which the film closes obligatory. No, not much this Woman in gold.

A fairly simple story that doesn't offer too many surprises, but that deserves to be told because of its enormous historical importance. Effective structure with past and present storylines that come together in the last scene in a very moving way, and excellent portrayals of Mirren, Reynolds and Allan Corduner as Mirren's father.
