Belgica plot

Jo is not very tall and thin in his twenties. As a young guest he had artistic ambitions, but eventually - out of love for music - he started café Belgica. Frank is seven years older and the big brother in every way. He is the man of many plans who always goes for it 100%. He will soon be a father for the second time, has a car dealership and wants to build his own house. Yet Frank is unhappy with his somewhat too predictable life. When visiting Jo's cafe, the brothers find each other again. Soon it turns out that Frank comes to help in the cafe. Jo appreciates the help, because being a cafe owner is tough. Frank, for his part, is revived by the rock 'n roll of nightlife. Together they will develop the Belgica brown pub into the nightlife hotspot in no time. Jo and Frank are the golden duo, the party is complete. But every success story also has a downside and the better things go, the more the brothers lose each other…

As read here before, the story of this Belgica is indeed not the best thing about the film. But the central duo (Stef Aerts and Tom Vermeer) put in a strong performance. I always believe them to be brothers who - sometimes against their better judgement - are very fond of each other. The female roles (Charlotte Vandermeersch especially) are indeed not really well filled, and are also not developed enough. But what an experience, what images and what a soundtrack! Because you are in the flow as a viewer, the small story is actually not a problem. For those who know the Charlatan, the film is extra fun due to small additions (the one eye, cameos from the current owner, the permanent sound technician, ...). Overall, 'Belgica' has been more than successful for me. You can read the full review here! Review: Belgica – Popcorn Tales - popcorntales.com

Excellent film about a man who goes to help his younger brother when he opens his own cafe. The relationship between the two brothers and the whole atmosphere in the cafe is portrayed well and credibly (the latter also because of the excellent music). Tom Vermeir strongly portrays his role as an older brother. Maybe a bit on the long side, but still a small 4.0 stars.

Finally watched this one and didn't like it. It is a bit of a special film, but still worth watching. The cast did a good job and came across convincingly. A varied soundtrack and visually it was also good.

I didn't really have any expectations, but it certainly didn't disappoint me.
