Mediocre drama about an extramarital affair, resulting in blackmail with fatal consequences. Apart from the beautiful images of the beautiful surroundings and a handful of sensual moments, a slow-moving film with an unbelievable twist at the end.
Director Antoinette Beumer has made considerably better films.

Simone [Loes Haverkort] and Eric [Mark van Eeuwen] move to France with their two young daughters to convert a dilapidated house in a rural area into a guesthouse. While Simone tries to find her way in the local community, Eric is completely absorbed in renovations, with help from the Dutch contractor Peter [Peter Paul Muller]. When the charming, handsome man who helped her in the supermarket turns out to be helping with the renovations, Simone can't resist the temptation. Anyone who has ever followed GTST, ATWT or TB&TB knows the formula and screenwriters Marjolein Beumer and Dorien Goertzen slavishly follow that standard formula. Despite this, Antoinette Beumer still manages to create some tension, but without a surprising plot twist, that makes little sense.

Every now and then I throw in a Dutch film to see how things are going in the Dutch film world these days. When I put on the film I initially did so without subtitles - it is a Dutch film after all. But believe me, if you don't speak French (good French, not basic) you won't understand a thing and you will miss important things. The film is ultimately not bad at all, and secretly I have developed a soft spot for the Frenchman who really knows how to whip you off your feet. The ending is still debatable. On the one hand it is kind of closed, but on the other hand I would have liked to see more about how it would continue. Where it otherwise seems like a romantic film about an affair, the thriller genre suddenly comes into play at the end. All in all a fine film, certainly for Dutch soil.
