Messi plot

"This is no ordinary biopic. This is no ordinary man."

His teachers, coaches, childhood friends and teammates gather with journalists, writers and other football experts at a restaurant to analyze Messi's personality, both on and off the field. Together they look back on the most important moments in his life. From his first touch with a ball to the decision to leave Rosario for Barcelona. The separation from his family and the role played by individuals such as Ronaldinho, Rijkaard, Rexach and Guardiola in his career.

I found the approach refreshing and fun. Occasionally the scenes in the restaurant come across as made (when the teachers all start pointing out who is in the restaurant, for example). In addition, the replayed images are not really great either. However, the documentary gave a nice picture of the beginning of Messi's career and it revealed quite a lot of things that I didn't know yet. Could definitely be better, but nice.

Boy, low score here. Certainly not a groundbreaking documentary and maybe a little glorification, but it is about the best football player in the world. As a fan of his, this is of course easier to ignore, but it is of course not very spectacular. Excellent documentary.

The first half of this portrait of (then) Barcelona player Lionel 'Leo' Messi is a lavish, lavish paean with clumsy reconstructions of key childhood moments. This Spanish documentary gets a lot more interesting when it focuses on the setbacks (a growth disorder and a serious injury) that Messi endured in his teenage years. Those moments prove to have been pivotal in the development of Messi as a knife and as a player. De La Iglesia films the conversation partners in a restaurant and emphasizes the influence of, among others, coaches Frank Rijkaard and Pep Guardiola and players Ronaldinho, Xavi and Iniesta. De La Iglesia films the conversations about Messi in the informal setting of a restaurant where family members, players, coaches and football legends (including Cruyff) talk about Messi at separate tables. It takes a bit of biting (!) or flushing (!), but then this is definitely worth it. If you like football of course.
