Dry.

The director had already captivated me in an extraordinary way with Rubber... one of the most absurd and illogical slashers I'd ever seen. Now he seems to have become a bit more serious by working more in the art corner. But his sense of humor hasn't disappeared at all. It just gets a little more clear.

Realité is actually almost just such a nonsense film... only it is a bit quieter and more businesslike now. The plot is actually simple: Jason has to make sure he comes up with the best scream for his new film, in order to successfully break through with his horror film about demonic TV sets. The assignment almost becomes an obsession and Jason throws everything aside to have the best scream recorded/find. That is not without obstacles full of competition, delusions, relationship problems and other woes. The film also seems to be getting weirder and more inimitable. Then there is also an American family with a father as a hunter/slaughter, where the daughter notices that a purple videotape slips between the entrails of a wild boar that has just been slaughtered by her father. What's on that tape.....yes....

Simply a wonderful nonsense arthouse film in which the nonsense sometimes does not stand out. Many references and a cynical nod to Hollywood. It also reminded me a bit of Takeshis'. The ending is fantastic.

And whether there will be another Rubber 2... Joost may know.

4.5*

Watched this movie once, but what a strange story. The film was captivating, but the story is fairly absurd and therefore less easy to follow.

The cast did a good job and visually it was also good.

Gosh, it wasn't bad, but a little less my thing.

Another absurd film by Dupieux. One that you should not think about too much and just let it come to you. Reality and fiction overlap each other on the various plot lines. The strong point of the film is that just about every plot line if every character has its own quality and is captivating enough to follow. Everything also gradually flows into each other.

I wouldn't call it complex and the inimitability does not have to be explained to be part of the story. It is pure enjoyment of the absurdity that seems nonsensical, but is well put together. That Jadson for example, what a character with his tape recorder and his primal screams.
