After part II, they followed up with a weak sequel, but this one is even weaker. Whether this was considered bad at the time, I don't really know. But after the weak third installment, you do get the feeling they're making this just to be criticized. And rightly so! Another weak installment, so I'm giving it a 1.0.

Doug (who was shot in part 2) isn't dead, he's alive! Admittedly, a different actor [Jason Cadieux] is now playing the role, but that doesn't really matter since this film is just as crazy as Iron Eagle and Iron Eagle 2. Sidney J. Furie is directing again, so it largely resembles things we've seen before. The story involves chemical weapons, corrupt officials, and young criminals led by Chappy Sinclair [Louis Gossett Jr.] who happily shoot away. If they're not doing it from their plane, then they're certainly using a stash of rifles and pistols they've scavenged. So much for this series... thankfully!

More than twenty years ago, Diesel already gave a perfect summary of this film. Yes, the story is terrible, the script is awful, and the actor who plays Doug is useless. Just like the other actors, all things considered. It remains somewhat puzzling what motivated Louis Gosset Jr. to even direct another installment, because he's head and shoulders above the rest of the production.

Until you realize that's not the point. It's about sentiment, and that's definitely there. Chappy is simply the man, and there's no arguing with that. Then it doesn't matter that the whole film is completely off, that Phantoms are used as MiGs, that when an F-16 fires, it sounds like you're at a carnival. Then it doesn't matter that the film is a complete mess.
