WNUF Halloween Special plot
"The infamous 1987 live broadcast!"
October 31, 1987. Television channel WNUF broadcasts a live show at and in the infamous Webber House, a place where supernatural activity has been observed and where horrific murders have taken place. Local TV personality Frank Stewart leads a group of paranormal investigators, including Catholic exorcist Father Joseph Matheson and married couple Louis and Claire Berger. Together they explore the darkest corners of the Webber House and attempt to prove the existence of the demonic entities…

Nostalgia!
This is strange... As if you are really watching an old live broadcast of a commercial TV station, including commercial breaks. Lots of breaks by the way, almost irritating (actually). On the other hand, there are some cool commercials. Special film that you should not expect much from in terms of story, you mainly watch this for the atmosphere. Nice concept, well made! 7/10*

Director Chris LaMartina's design is reminiscent of Ghostwatch, which was released 21 years before this film. Both films followed a concept that makes you feel like you are watching a lost television report. A truly brilliant concept if you have limited resources, but LaMartina's film clearly falls short of the example in question. The first 30 minutes of WNUF Halloween Special are refreshingly comedic and wonderfully crafted. There is a strong feeling that you are watching television in the 1980s and the alternation between television programs and satirical commercials is worth seeing. Here LaMartina also made use of various other directors who were responsible for these commercials. A nice team with clearly a lot of horror passion, but the trick really wears off after that half hour and from that moment on the film cuts to the commercials far too often to the point of being irritating. Especially because you end up looking at the advertisement itself more often than the program and then the 83 minutes are quite long. The final horror is also kept quite limited in this film, although the finale is quite fun in terms of originality. WNUF Halloween Special is a fun and entertaining whole to watch on Halloween night itself (as I did), but the slightly too repetitive structure brings the whole thing down. In the meantime, a sequel has been released that I may turn on in the future.
