Prachtig. Zoals ik zojuist op mijn facebook postte:
Portuguese director Miguel Gomes made my weekend some time ago with the innovative "Our beloved month of August". His follow up, "Tabu", is an entirely different movie. Shot in black and white, it tells the tale of a christian woman with a crazy neighbour, which after an hour becomes a movie about the crazy neighbour and the past she has lived. Gomes takes all the freedom he likes in narrative and form, shooting whole passages with no sound (that is how you relive the past in your head), and only a voice over, solemnly uttering formal, old-fashioned lines. "Tabu" is a film about the depth of a single human life, and about tragedy perhaps being better than nothing. I think Gomes is a major talent.
