In the year 2193, the genius Dr. Mordicai Sahmbi a time machine called TRAX ('Transtime Research and eXperimentation'), which allows one to travel to the past. Unfortunately, Sahmbi uses his TRAX project for illegal purposes: he allows more than 100 criminals to escape 200 years back in time for payment, in order to allow them to escape their judicial punishment. When the case comes to light, Sahmbi himself also flees to the past. The policeman Captain Darien Lambert works for the so-called 'Fugitive Retrieval Section'. He is ordered to travel after Sahmbi in the year 1993, to catch all the escaped criminals there and to get them under lock and key after all. However, it is difficult for Lambert to survive in the (for him) primitive 20th century. Driving turns out to be more difficult than expected and even ordering food is a challenge.
