Fear the Walking Dead plot

Fear The Walking Dead takes us back to the beginning of the zombie apocalypse from The Walking Dead. We follow Travis Manawa, who discovers with his family that something terrible is going on. Slowly but surely they see how people around them turn into bloodthirsty monsters after they have died. They try to find out what's going on and do everything they can to survive.

Tot nu aan toe niet heel geweldig. Vooral dat zoontje van de vader is mega irritant. Viktor Strand daarentegen is een heerlijke personage. Aflevering 7 is wel het dieptepunt tot nu aan toe en die vind ik persoonlijk onvoldoende.

Not very great so far. The father's son is especially annoying. Viktor Strand, on the other hand, is a delightful character. Episode 7 is the low point so far and I personally find it insufficient.

Toch wel behoorlijk ondergewaardeerd deze serie hoor. FTWD scoort op IMDB een zeer magere 7,1, waar TWD (die toch ook ieder seizoen zeker weer zijn zwakke afleveringen kent) een 8,6 scoort. Fear the Walking Dead is niet briljant, maar zo matig als dat velen de serie afdoen is het ook zeker niet in mijn ogen. Dit tweede seizoen is qua kwaliteit wat stabieler dan het eerste seizoen. We beginnen natuurlijk met de groep op de boot van Strand. Deze setting kent enkele leuke afleveringen, maar ik was toch ook wel weer blij wanneer ze Mexico betraden. Zeker wanneer de groep eenmaal opsplitst wordt dit tweede seizoen echt de moeite waard. We nemen gelukkig afscheid van Daniel Salazar (zeker geen favoriet van mij), wat Ofelia's character misschien ook wel ten goede komt. Nick's ontwikkelingen in de Colonia zijn ook interessant om te volgen. Het beste wat seizoen 2 echter te bieden heeft is naar mijn mening de ontwikkelingen tussen Travis en Chris. Wat heb ik genoten van hun afleveringen zeg. Sterk acteerwerk ook van zowel Cliff Curtis als Lorenzo James Henrie. Het 'einde' van deze verhaallijn in aflevering 14 ('Wrath') behoort tot de top drie afleveringen van zowel FTWD als TWD wat mij betreft. Natuurlijk heeft Fear ook wel z'n minpuntjes. Het is af en toe nog steeds vreemd/matig geschreven (met drie bloedvegen op je hoofd kun je je plotseling onder de zombies begeven zonder dat ze je doorhebben). Daarnaast vind ik Kim Dickens een miscast. Zal ook aan het character kunnen liggen, maar ze wekt gewoon geen enkel schrijntje sympathie op. Slordig vind ik ook de scenes op of nabij de zee, die klinken alsof ze zijn opgenomen in een lege hal.

This series is quite underrated though. FTWD scores a very poor 7.1 on IMDB, where TWD (which also has its weak episodes every season) scores an 8.6. Fear the Walking Dead is not brilliant, but it is certainly not as mediocre as many consider the series to be in my eyes.

This second season is a bit more stable in terms of quality than the first season. We'll of course start with the group on Strand's boat . This setting has some nice episodes, but I was also happy when they entered Mexico. Especially when the group splits up once , this second season will be really worth it. We are happy to say goodbye to Daniel Salazar (certainly not a favorite of mine), which might also benefit Ofelia's character. Nick's developments in the Colonia are also interesting to follow. However, the best season 2 has to offer, in my opinion, is the development between Travis and Chris. How I enjoyed their episodes. Strong acting also from both Cliff Curtis and Lorenzo James Henrie. The 'ending' of this storyline in episode 14 ('Wrath') ranks among the top three episodes of both FTWD and TWD as far as I'm concerned.

Of course Fear also has its downsides. It's still strangely/poorly written at times (with three blood streaks on your head you can suddenly find yourself among the zombies without them noticing you). I also think Kim Dickens is a miscast. Could also be the character, but she just doesn't arouse any sympathy. I also find the scenes on or near the sea sloppy, which sound like they were shot in an empty hall.

Kan voorlopig nog niet in de schaduw staan van grote broer The Walking Dead, maar bij vlagen is dit toch wel behoorlijk intrigerend en, niet onbelangrijk, erg spannend. Deze tweede reeks begint sterk, zakt halverwege flink in om vervolgens geweldig te eindigen. Soms een beetje doorbijten dus, maar het loont de moeite. De deur naar een derde seizoen staat nu wagenwijd open.

Can't stand in the shadow of big brother The Walking Dead for the time being, but at times this is quite intriguing and, not unimportantly, very exciting. This second series starts strong, collapses halfway through and ends great. So sometimes a bit of a bite, but it's worth it. The door to a third season is now wide open.
