Who wouldn't want the chance to do absolutely nothing for a year these days? That's exactly what's at stake in '1 Year Free'. Sixteen candidates compete for the annual salary of the group's biggest earner during thirteen episodes. Every week someone has to leave the arena and eventually one contestant walks away with a generous annual salary. The quiz first aired in 2001 with Herman Van Molle as presenter and Katja Retsin as host. However, in September 2008 it was decided not to make an eighth season, partly due to the financial aspect. In January 2020, the quiz reboot started with a new presenter.
