Fifty years ago, a girl disappeared on the island of Kaitangata. She seemed to be swallowed up by it. The local Maori knew it was best to leave the place alone. Now, however, the island seems to have woken up again. It moves and it trembles. Only thirteen-year-old Meredith can prevent a new victim. But first she has to find out what the island wants.
