Completely unjustified, but this bowl of nostalgia gets five full stars from me for the pleasant childhood memories. From a time when an elderly clown and stiff acrobat were still allowed to collect subsidy money for a non-Eurosceptic view of the future of Europe. Reality (tax debt and quarrels) has also caught up with the beautiful dream for the roguish duo. Nevertheless, a nice piece of 90s sentiment. Revisited as late teens, early twenties when alcohol came into my life and Nickelodeon included it in their nighttime programming. This series did well within our group of friends at the time.

This is by far the most instructive series by Bassie & Adriaan. I've probably seen the most this season and it played a part in my development as a kid. At that age I didn't really have a picture of countries like Denmark, Ireland and Portugal, but those "annoying clown and acrobat" changed that. The songs and their content have all stuck with me quite well, but I have to admit that I used to flush those during the umpteenth viewing.

The Mysterious Assignment or otherwise known as Journey through Europe is one of the Duo's last adventures. In this series they travel through the different countries (member of the EU) and have to look for a package… With their search you get a nice picture of the country in question, so quite instructive. The program/series was subsidized at the time and was made to promote the disappearing borders in Europe and the common currency the ECU as intended in the 90s.

The songs in this series were all of the same tune. It was previously used in the sunken city only now in a different arrangement and text. Same goes for the song from the hot air balloon, which was used before in The Crying Professor. That is not very creative from a duo who were also known as composers of many (carnival) hits.

In this series also a new bunch of crooks, that takes some getting used to after years of Snel Japie and B2. Brilliant crook duo. Now we have to deal with B100 (I'm always unlucky too) and Handy Harry. Just think their storyline is thin and in this series they really don't forget Snel Japie and B2. The baron is once again masterfully portrayed by Paul van Gorcum.
