Wu-Tang: An American Saga plot

Wu-Tang: An American Saga is set in New York City during the height of the crack cocaine craze in the early 1990s. It follows the formation of the Wu-Tang Clan, a vision of Bobby Diggs aka The RZA, and rises amid the dangers and excesses that accompanied the craze. Seeking his own way out, Diggs turns to rap to carve a path to fame that goes against his older brother Divine, who chose the drug trade as a means of giving their families a better life. The story shows how it all came together for the clan as Diggs unites a dozen young black men torn between music and crime.

1ste aflevering gezien en precies zoals verwacht irriteer ik me eigen nu al aan het gangster-leven. N-woord hier N-woord daar. Appartement, waar een drugrunner met zijn moeder en twee gehandicapten broertjes woont, vanaf een afstand beschieten en daarna op veel te grote schoenen als een debiel wegrennen. Wat een held! Face to Face confrontatie(s): ho maar! Misschien moet dat nog komen? Ik kom uit de tijd 'Ouwe Jongens Krentenbrood', gewoon met de vuisten! Zo zie je maar dat een ieder anders opgroeit. Different time different place. Zoals je kan lezen irritatie(s) genoeg. Toch ga ik vanavond verder met aflevering 2. Ben gewoon ontzettend nieuwsgierig naar de muziek/groep historie van 'The Wu-Tang Clan', want ondanks dat ik het vroeger veel luisterde ben ik uiteraard niet overal van op de hoogte. Hoe is de muziek nu echt ontstaan? Hoe heeft de groep zich echt gevormd? Hoop dus op die grote verrassing die mij omver zal blazen. Voor nu blijf ik benieuwd.

Saw the 1st episode and exactly as expected I'm already annoyed by the gangster life. N-word here N-word there. Apartment, where a drug runner lives with his mother and two handicapped brothers, shooting from a distance and then running away like a moron in shoes that are way too big. What a hero! Face to Face confrontation(s): never mind! Maybe that's yet to come? I come from the time 'Ouwe Jongens Krentenbrood', just with the fists! So you see that everyone grows up differently. Different time different place. As you can read irritation(s) enough. Still, tonight I'll continue with episode 2. I'm just really curious about the music/group history of 'The Wu-Tang Clan', because even though I used to listen to it a lot, I'm obviously not aware of everything. How did the music really come about? How did the group really form? So hope for that big surprise that will blow me away. For now I remain curious.

Prima eerste seizoen dat zich vooral richt op het gewelddadige dealerbestaan in de meer ongure wijken van New York. Je vraagt je wel af waarom ze perse moeten dealen maar het levert meer op dan een baantje en blijkbaar nemen ze de risico's op de koop toe. De serie richt zich vooral op RZA, Robert Diggs/Bobby Digital, het grote meesterbrein achter de legendarische groep. Die hier nog helemaal niet bestaat, rap is een hobby voor een aantal en vooral Bobby is veel meer creatief bezig met het maken van beats. Goede acteurs en productie. Het meeste aandacht krijgt verder de heetgebakerde Ghostface Killah, die hier nog aartsvijand is van Raekwon. Method Man komt ook af en toe aan bod en Ol Dirty Bastard zien we al flink de mafkees uithangen. In de latere seizoenen zien we wat meer van Ugod en GZA maar gek genoeg nooit Capadonna.

Great first season that mainly focuses on the violent dealers' existence in the more sinister neighborhoods of New York. You do wonder why they have to deal, but it yields more than a job and apparently they accept the risks. The series mainly focuses on RZA, Robert Diggs/Bobby Digital, the great mastermind behind the legendary group. Who does not exist here yet, rap is a hobby for some and Bobby in particular is much more creative with making beats. Good actors and production. Most attention is also given to the hot-headed Ghostface Killah, who is still Raekwon's arch enemy here. Method Man also appears occasionally and we see Ol Dirty Bastard acting like a weirdo. In the later seasons we see more of Ugod and GZA but strangely enough never Capadonna.
