In 14th century England, Queen Isabella just got rid of her husband. Knight Thomas Langley has to flee because of his part in the death of King Edward II and ends up in the priory of Kingsbridge. There he meets the inspired Caris, a young lady who inspires the medieval town to resist the greatest forces of her time; the Church and the Crown.
