The Village plot

The Village is a family epic set entirely in an English countryside village in Derbyshire. The series shows the impact of the great events of the twentieth century on the inhabitants. Central is the story of Bert Middleton, who looks back on the history of his village. The series starts in our time, when the very elderly Bert is interviewed. A film is made about his village, and Bert takes us back to the long, warm summer of 1914. He is twelve and his life consists of school, playing with friends, working the fields with his father and secretly swimming with his elder. brother. Bert's parents are poor. The farm has been in the family for two centuries, but it's getting harder and harder to make ends meet. What makes it even more difficult is the fact that Bert's father is not particularly popular in the village. Then one day war breaks out with Germany.
