The Stand plot

An apocalyptic world has been ravaged by a massive outbreak of a government-created virus called "Captain Tripps". Within a few weeks, 99% of the population has been wiped out. The fate of humanity rests on the frail shoulders of 108-year-old Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a deadly smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg aka The Dark Man.

"In tegenstelling tot de voorgaande miniserie, verpest deze moderne versie van 'The Stand' vanaf het begin al zijn kansen. De serie, die geen recht doet aan de magnum opus-roman van Stephen King, lijdt aan niet-chronologische sprongen, een gebrek aan gehechtheid en een monotone - hoewel nieuwe, rauwe en meer gedetailleerde - sfeer. Daardoor - hoewel de cast passend is, de effecten werken en de muziek intrigeert - kan de serie niet concurreren met de warme en emotioneel sterkere karaktergerichte reis die de miniserie eens bood." Mijn uiteindelijke cijfer is jammerlijk een 5,7/10 geworden. Dit wordt dus, hoe vervelend ook een 3*/5.

Unlike the previous miniseries, this modern version of 'The Stand' ruins all its chances from the start. The series, which does not do justice to Stephen King's magnum opus novel, suffers from non-chronological jumps, a lack of attachment and a monotonous - albeit novel, gritty and more detailed - atmosphere, which means that - while the cast is appropriate, the effects work and the music intriguing - the series cannot compete with the warm and emotionally stronger character-focused journey the miniseries once offered ."

Sadly my final grade turned out to be a 5.7/10. So, no matter how annoying, this will be a 3*/5.
