The Durrells plot
The Durrells series begins in 1935, when Louisa Durrell suddenly announces that she and her four children are moving from Bournemouth to the Greek island of Corfu. Her husband passed away several years ago and the family suffers from financial difficulties. The family has to adjust to life on the island, despite the lack of modern amenities such as electricity. It is a cheap and earthly paradise, which seems to come straight out of a poem by the Greek poet Homer.
