A solid third season, featuring grandiose spectacle, especially in the first and the last few episodes, that rivals Game of Thrones. Unfortunately, there are some dull moments in the middle, and certain characters haven't exactly become more interesting. A shame, because at times it is really very good. The ending, at any rate, leaves you looking forward to the fourth (and reportedly final) season.

The fact that on MM, S2 currently has a higher average than S3 is hardly remarkable…
I don't recognize much of the criticism being voiced here. This season is significantly better than the previous one. The previous season was a grand setup without a single plotline being completed, unlike this season. That doesn't change the fact, however, that HBO's greed in making 4 seasons instead of 3 is still very noticeable in the storylines. This series would absolutely have reached the momentum of GoT if it had stuck to the original 3 seasons. It is also ridiculous that we now have to wait another two years for the conclusion of this series…
The first two episodes of this season are exceptionally strong and take on Game of Thrones-esque proportions. The subsequent episodes maintain a similar level, but the pace does slow down. The last two episodes pick up the pace again, and the final episode gives us another glorious battle.
Emma D'Arcy delivers a rock-solid performance this season; this surely hasn't gone unnoticed by the rest, and she will likely take home an Emmy.
This season absolutely captivated me, and I therefore cannot agree with the criticisms of it being a “costume drama” or “soap opera,” and for anyone who doesn't think the parallels between Rhaenyra and Danaerys fit. This was literally teased in GoT already, and besides that, this “mad queen” turn is, in my opinion, well and organically developed. She wanted to stick to her father's philosophy for a very long time, but after yet another setback, she breaks.

This is appallingly poorly put together. Everything is so predictable that you could almost write along with the script. There is hardly any suspense or surprise left. By now, it is starting to look more like an exorbitantly expensive medieval spin-off of Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden than House of the Dragon.
Endless scheming, dramatic glances, inflated dialogue, and so-called twists that you see coming from miles away. For a series about power, betrayal, and political intrigue, it is almost impressive how little suspense they manage to extract.
Yes, it looks beautiful, but if the story is so predictable and bland, there is little left but a very expensive costume drama. Plenty of dragons, plenty of fire, but the script itself just won't ignite.
