Etterglød plot
Ester Sand is a mother of three children who always has a very positive outlook on life. Even when she is diagnosed with cervical cancer on her fortieth birthday, she tries to remain optimistic and reassure the people in her life. She and her friends decide to make the most of life, because it could end at any moment.

The Norwegian tragicomedy Afterglow / Etterglød is at its core a relationship drama with a thick black edge, and most comparable to top series such as Cold Feet or the more light-hearted Bonusfamiljen. Ester Sand - excellently played by Nina Ellen Ødegård (Evy & Alltid, State of Happiness) - is diagnosed with cervical cancer. However, the enthusiastic and optimistic mother - who has just turned 40 - does not want to lose her footing and tries to continue enjoying herself intensely. It produces sublime and moving television that was awarded the Prix Europa 2022 for best series for good reason.
Creator and director Atle Knudsen lost his wife to cancer in 2018. Afterglow knows how to convince with humor and infectious optimism, but in no way avoids the pain of cancer. In the evening glow of this existence, Afterglow is an ode to the joy of life.
