Too thick and sporadically even a rather ridiculous miniseries, beautiful in terms of decoration and production design, but hardly to be taken seriously in terms of content. The usually reliable Helen Mirren (one of the producers here, of course) throws a bit of a hat on in the lead role. The rest of the cast does a little better, but it doesn't exactly hold up. Towards the end, the whole thing gains dramatic power, but it's clearly a case of too little too late.
